What each session includes — and why it matters

With me, a neurofeedback session does not mean one kind of training. Every 50-minute session includes, in the same visit:

  • EEG neurofeedback on the Braintrainer system — training with an individual protocol set from your own QEEG assessment, not a standard programme, „the same for everyone";
  • HEG (haemoencephalography) — training of the prefrontal cortex, the area responsible for focus, decision-making and self-regulation;
  • direct clinical supervision — you work one-to-one with a clinical psychologist licensed by the Romanian College of Psychologists and a psychotherapist, not with a technician or a machine left running on its own.

This combination — two technologies in a single session, run personally by a clinician — is rare in Romania. And it is the reason progress is followed in data, not in impressions.

How you start — 3 simple steps

Step 1. The orientation consultation — free (30 minutes, by video or at the practice). We talk about what brings you, what you want to change, and whether neurofeedback is right for you. With no obligation.

Step 2. The BrainMap (QEEG) assessment. We measure the brain's electrical activity, you receive a written report and a feedback session in which I explain what your brain map shows and what training plan I recommend — including how many sessions I estimate for your goals. The plan is set after the assessment, not before.

Step 3. The training — in blocks of 20 sessions. Neuroplasticity has its own pace: under 20 sessions, the results do not have time to settle — and I prefer to say so from the start rather than promise you „quick results". The recommended rhythm is 2 sessions a week (a block is roughly 10 weeks), and at the end of each block we repeat the QEEG measurement, so that you can see the progress in the data and we can decide the next steps together.

Who neurofeedback is for

Adults and professionals. Anxiety, chronic stress, burnout, insomnia, difficulty concentrating. For managers and entrepreneurs: clarity under pressure, restorative sleep, sustained focus. Before psychology I ran companies — I know the pressure of daily decisions from the inside. See also the page „Neurofeedback for managers".

Children and adolescents. ADHD and attention difficulties, school anxiety, tics, difficulty with emotional self-regulation, sleep disorders, autism spectrum conditions. The BrainMap assessment objectively shows the activation profile of the child's brain, and the training is gentle, non-invasive and takes the form of a game on screen — children enjoy it. The plan is agreed with the parents, after the assessment. See also the article on neurofeedback and ASD.

Performance. Athletes, performers and professionals in high-stakes fields who want to optimise how they function cognitively — attention, speed of decision, recovery.

What the science says — briefly and honestly

Neurofeedback is a non-invasive training of the brain's self-regulation, studied for decades. The evidence is solid particularly for ADHD, and promising for anxiety, sleep and cognitive performance. It is not a miracle treatment and it does not replace medical treatment or psychotherapy where those are needed — it complements them. That is exactly why we measure: a QEEG assessment before, a re-assessment after each block, progress followed in data rather than in promises.

  • Consultations in Romanian, English and French.

How to compare neurofeedback offers properly

Very different services are found today under the label „neurofeedback" — from EEG training with individual clinical protocols to automated systems that run the same programme for everyone, or headsets with light stimulation. Before you choose, anywhere, ask these 7 questions:

  1. Is there a QEEG assessment (brain map) before the training?
  2. Is the protocol individual, or the same for everyone?
  3. Who runs the session, and what clinical training do they have?
  4. Which technologies does a session actually include?
  5. How is progress measured objectively along the way?
  6. What duration is being recommended to me — and on what basis?
  7. What happens if I am not a suitable candidate?

The right answers are no secret — they are exactly what you get here.

Frequently asked questions

Why a minimum of 20 sessions?

Because brain training works through repetition and consolidation, like any learning. Below that threshold, the changes do not have time to settle. It is a matter of professional honesty: I would rather you lose some enthusiasm at the start than your trust at the end.

How long is a session and how often do I come?

50 minutes, recommended twice a week. A block of 20 sessions comes to roughly 10 weeks.

This is a serious investment. How should I weigh it?

A full block can be paid in 3 monthly instalments, with the progress assessment included and an objectively measured review at the end. Weigh that cost against the price of months or years of poor sleep, anxiety or burnout.

Is it safe? Are there side effects?

Neurofeedback is non-invasive: the brain receives only visual and auditory feedback, not electrical stimulation. Some people may feel mildly and briefly tired after the first sessions. Situations calling for caution are identified at the assessment.

Can I do just a few sessions, to see how it goes?

Yes — after the assessment you can book individual sessions to get a feel for the process. But I will say it plainly: without a full block, do not expect stable results.

Do you work in English or French?

Yes — French as a native language, English at an advanced level. Welcome, bienvenue.

I am coming from Bucharest — is the trip worth it?

For northern Bucharest (Băneasa, Pipera, Aviației), I am often closer than a clinic in the centre. For the rest of the city, I schedule slots against the traffic: the middle of the day and weekends.

What clients say

The practice's Google rating: 5.0 out of 5, from 32 public reviews. A few of them, in the clients' own words (translated from Romanian):

„I recommend Ileana with all my heart! I knew nothing about neurofeedback before we started. I came to the practice anxious, unmotivated and with sleep problems. I can now say that my sleep has improved considerably, the anxiety has eased and I am very motivated to do things. As a bonus came better attention and greater powers of concentration. I recommend her warmly!"

Laurentiu Tudor — public review on Google

„My six-year-old daughter is about to finish her first block of 20 neurofeedback sessions. After the first sessions I noticed improvements in her sleep, and over the past weeks there have been visible cognitive gains: more fluent speech, more words and new expressions, and she is far more responsive."

Diana Amar — public review on Google

„My daughter started neurofeedback with Ileana only a month ago, but I can say we have seen major changes at school. A friendly atmosphere, a professional approach, attentive to the child's needs. Thank you."

Stoian Nicoleta — public review on Google

„We recommend Ileana Vlad both for her professionalism and for her dedication and interest in finding the most effective solutions for each individual client. [...] My little boy likes her, he feels at ease, and the changes are visible."
