🎯 The purpose of the assessment

The aim of this kind of assessment is not classification or labelling, but understanding individual cognitive mechanisms and how they support or hinder performance, motivation and school integration.

The assessment is recommended for:

  • identifying strengths and vulnerable areas in the adolescent’s cognitive structure;
  • supporting an informed process of career guidance, centred on real potential;
  • formulating personalised educational recommendations in cases of underachievement or adaptive difficulty;
  • documenting the functional profile within a therapeutic or psychoeducational process.

🧠 Which abilities do we assess?

The assessment includes a selection of 14 cognitive subdomains, covering both basic and higher functions, through a combination of self-assessment tasks and tasks administered by the psychologist. All the instruments are scientifically validated and adapted for adolescents aged 12 to 19.

1. General functional abilities

  • A self-assessment task exploring the adolescent’s capacity to self-regulate in daily tasks and to organise their time and cognitive effort efficiently.
  • Relevant to assessing functional independence, planning and initiative.

2. Form perception

  • 3 self-assessment tasks.
  • Assesses visual discrimination, form completion, perceptual integration and the ability to recognise incomplete visual structures.
  • Important in STEM, design, architecture and the exact sciences.

3. Numerical ability

  • 4 self-assessment tasks investigating:
    • mental manipulation of numbers;
    • arithmetic reasoning;
    • recognition of numerical patterns;
    • the application of numerical logic in problem-solving.

This ability is a valuable predictor of success in mathematics, the exact sciences, economics and technical fields.

4. Decision-making capacity

  • 1 self-assessment task measuring the adolescent’s capacity to make rapid, effective decisions in ambiguous, complex or pressured situations.
  • It assesses decision speed, tolerance of uncertainty, cognitive impulsivity and flexibility of thinking.
  • Relevant to leadership, career guidance and self-efficacy.

5. General learning ability

  • 8 tasks (5 self-assessments and 3 administered by the psychologist).
  • The following are analysed:
    • overall cognitive style;
    • information-processing strategies;
    • capacity to learn through repetition vs. inference;
    • integration of feedback;
    • capacity for metacognitive self-regulation.

This category is essential in distinguishing between genuine learning difficulties and situational ones (e.g. performance anxiety, lack of motivation).

6. Spatial ability

  • 3 self-assessment tasks measuring:
    • mental manipulation of objects;
    • spatial orientation;
    • the capacity to understand three-dimensional structures.
  • This ability applies in geometry, technical drawing, architecture, robotics, geography and navigation.

7. Verbal ability

  • 3 self-assessment tasks investigating:
    • receptive and expressive vocabulary;
    • reading comprehension;
    • the capacity for argument and abstraction through language.
  • A key indicator of crystallised intelligence and a strong predictor of general academic success.

8. Processing and reaction speed

  • 3 self-assessment tasks measuring:
    • the speed of visual and auditory perception;
    • reaction time in tasks of varying complexity;
    • processing efficiency under time pressure.

This ability is crucial to efficiency in learning, competitive tasks, standardised examinations and adaptation to an accelerated educational pace.

📊 How are the results analysed?

  • The results of each task are scored in a standardised way, against age norms.
  • The outcome is a multidimensional cognitive profile, which highlights:
    • areas of high performance (crystallised abilities, dominant styles of thinking);
    • vulnerable or uneven areas (difficulties of integration, cognitive latency, imbalance between logic and expressiveness);
    • potential for development (accelerated learning, emerging styles).

The interpretation is carried out by a clinical psychologist, within the adolescent’s personal, educational and motivational context.
